Children’s Family Violence Counselling

Children’s Family Violence Counselling is a centre-based counselling service for children aged 0-17 years old. Counselling is available for children who have experienced, witnessed or been exposed to family violence.

About Children’s Family Violence Counselling

Children’s Counselling aims to provide opportunities for children to:

  • Express and process emotions and experiences in a safe and confidential space
  • Re/strengthen the bond between mother and child

A range of child focused approaches are used including:

  • Strengths based
  • Narrative
  • Play

Children Counsellors will work collaboratively with children, their families and other services such as schools and child protection.

Star Health’s Children’s Counsellors have extensive experience working in family violence and understand the impact this can have on children’s physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing. The family violence program offers a range of women’s and children’s groups targeting the effects of family violence.

How do I access Children’s Family Violence Counselling?

Counselling is available to children aged 0-17 years old who have experienced family violence. The service is available at the St Kilda location from Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm.

How much will it cost?

Children’s Counselling is a fee-free service.
